Save STEIM!!

STEIM, the legendary studio for electro-instrumental music in Amsterdam is in the danger of losing its structural funding from the Dutch government. Please help them to continue bringing good stuff to the world by sending letters of support before 26th May!

STEIM is the only independent live electronic music centre in the world that is exclusively dedicated to the performing arts. Since the 60’s, they have been encouraging the use of low-tech solutions, the creative “misuse” of recycled high-tech. They promote the idea that Touch is crucial in communicating with electronic and digital arts technologies. It is this vision that over the years has given birth to physical, sensor-based musical instruments.

All year round, STEIM hosts an international community of hundreds of performers, musicians and visual artists for residencies and provides technical and artistic support for pioneering new live electronic performances.

Please show your support to this highly dynamic and legendary Dutch institution to which we greatly owe for the genre of physical interfaces for live electronic music! STEIM has made an enormous contribution to contemporary music and has lots more in store to offer for the future. Losing them would be horrible!!!

To help you can send a letter of support. The contents are up to you, a few good lines will suffice. You could tell how you or someone you know benefited from their contact with STEIM: meeting fellow travelers or making or refining an instrument or an idea for a performance, or what you feel would be lost if STEIM ceased to exist, or just some words about watching STEIM’s work from afar.

Also include some specific details of your context so your place in the world will be visible for the committee. A letterhead with your organization or institution and your position or title above your signature are small things that can leave an impression.
