Mobile Music Workshop 2008, Vienna, Austria

The latest edition of the Mobile Music Workshop took place on 13-15 May 2008. This year’s workshop was hosted by the University of Applied Arts in Vienna, Austria (local organiser: Nicolaj Kirisits).

As each year, the workshop aimed to provide an opportunity for an international crowd of people working with the theme of mobile music in various disciplines (artists, designers, researchers, hackers, industry, sociologists, etc), to meet and exchange their experience and knowledge, as well as imagine the future of the field together.

This year’s edition consisted of a combination of paper presentations, of installations and performances across Vienna, a hands-on session with mobile music technology, a poster session, and group discussions during three days. It also included excellent concerts and installations by local artists, with among others the amazing Institute for Transacoustic Research and the beautiful installation Craving.

Besides Lalya being part of the international steering committee, Richard participated with a performance of IMPROVe and a tutorial during the hands-on session.

The workshop was also featured on the Austrian national radio channel ORF (link coming soon!). Also, this year being the 5th edition of the Mobile Music Workshop, a catalogue has been published as a retrospective of the first 5 years of workshop! More info about it coming soon!
